Vintage Chinese Song-style Celadon Vase

A handmade vase with incising to resemble a Chinese vase from the 11th Century. It has elements of design from both Sui and Northern Song dynasties. The hand-thrown stoneware vase was glazed with a thick brownish celadon glaze that has a fine crackle to it.

There are five pairs of incised circular lines starting below the bottle mouth and ending an inch above the base. A flamboyant incised peony scroll wraps around the middle of the vase. The neck has four lug handles, where the glaze has pooled around the loops and their bolts. A line from hand luting the top and bottom of the vase together is visible around the middle of body. The glaze shows excellent control at the base.

The foot is shallow, cut and unglazed. The clay is a buff color and an iron line from firing is visible on the foot. The base is glazed and the interior is unglazed. 5" (12.7 cm) diameter x 8 1/4" (21.0 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 11.5 oz (785 g).
